Christian, The problem WAS in DDL::Oracle, but has since been corrected. Please upgrade to the current version (1.10), and see if this fixes your output. Thanks. And please report any other issues you find -- we try to fix all reported bugs. Dear list members. I'm a new user of the DDL utility which I've taken into use for a cron job collecting a.o. table and view DDL from the data dictionary of my developer's work station. I have, however, a problem which I haven't been able to solve: how do I achieve the column name definition part of a create view statement being reflected by the DDL utility? What I get when I execute the below script with 'view' as argument for my option -t are statements consisting of 'create or replace view as ' followed by the select and where clauses in question but no list of column names reflecting those I explicitly declared myself. As above mentioned I'm a new user and have almost no experience with writing DBI syntax (I've been using Oracle4 & and oraperl for years) and therefore presume that the problem is with the programmer (me) and not the programming tool (DDL). Butwhat *is* the problem? Will someone please enlighten me? #!/usr/local/bin/perl require "app_name.pl"; use Getopt::Long; use DBI; use DDL::Oracle; sub read_opts { my($usage); $script = &app_name; $usage = "Usage: ${script}.pl -opt ..\n"; $usage .= " -l user/password\n"; $usage .= " -t object type\n"; $usage .= " [ -n object name ]\n"; $usage .= " [ -o object owner ]\n"; &GetOptions('l=s','t=s','n:s','o:s') || die "$usage\n"; $opt_l || die "$usage\n"; # split oracle user and password from login parm ($user,$passwd) = split(/\//,$opt_l); die "$usage\n" if ! Remke, Thanks again. You have been extremely helpful in shaking down DDL::Oracle for Oracle7, and I really appreciate it. I may get a new version out this weekend. Hello list-users (Richard)? This issue concerns version 1.06 of ddl-oracle, containing Oracle.pm version 1.40. Lines 613-616 of Oracle.pm say: if ( $oracle_major < 8 ) { $sql .= "$enable\n"; } $enable has the value of ENABLE or DISABLE, depending on the state of the constraint. However, in Oracle 7.3.3, in an ALTER TABLE ... ADD CONSTRAINT statement you only need to use DISABLE if the constraint must not be enforced. Default is enabled and that does not need a keyword. Eg, the code generated is: ALTER TABLE myuser.exm_result_category ADD CONSTRAINT fk_exm_result__exm_result FOREIGN KEY ( resultid ) REFERENCES myuser.exm_result ( resultid ) ON DELETE CASCADE ENABLE ; The line ENABLE should be omitted, or it should read: ENABLE CONSTRAINT constraintname I changed line 613-616 in Oracle.pm to: if ( $oracle_major < 8 ) { if ( $enable ne 'ENABLE' ) { $sql .= "$enable\n"; } } That seems to work fine. However, I do not know if this is valid for all older Oracle versions. Remke Rutgers - Rem...@br... Remke, Sorry. I read it too quickly, and thought it said "version 0.38." I'll take a look at it. It doesn't [yet] distinguish between versions on triggers, so maybe that's the problem. Please upgrade, and let us know if you still have any problems. Thanks. BTW, if you go to http://sourceforge.net/projects/ddl-oracle/, you can "monitor" the package. Remke, I am making a change in DDL::Oracle v1.02 to address this problem. I decided to omit the PARALLEL clause for 7.3 instances, because Oracle does not supply the info needed in its normal dictionary views. I could have gone against the SYS.IND$ table, but I decided against this since some [many?] users would not have access to this table. I did not want to use the parallelism of the table in the CREATE INDEX clause, since I have no way to know if this is accurate. I hope this will fix your problem. I guess that means I hope that you are not using a PARALLEL clause in your indexes. Let me know if you disagree. Remke, Thanks very much for the bug report. The testing on Oracle 7.3 has, to be honest, been very sparce, so I am relying on users to help me out. I have only just recently been able to do any testing at all on 7.3. As it turns out, this feature IS supported beginning with Oracle8, so the other versions are just fine. I will include a fix for this problem in the next release (1.02), which may be ready within the next week. Thanks again. I really appreciate it! Hello listmembers (just Richard?), I just discovered your library today and it looks very promising. I think however I discovered a bug. I am using Oracle 7.3.3.0 on Solaris and ActiveState Perl. Note that I am in no way an experienced perl programmer, I can copy paste and modify, but hardly program in perl from scratch. I am a reasonably experienced Oracle user, but no DBA. When using my $obj = DDL::Oracle->new( type => 'table family', list => $list, ); to create a script that includes indexes, constraints etc, I get an error message from Oracle.pm line 1252. (version 1.01) i.instances does not exist. (i is an alias for dba_indexes) Four modifications fixed the problem: 1085 LTRIM(t.degree) 1086 , LTRIM(t.instances) 1124 , ${view}_segments s, ${view}_tables t 1127 AND s.segment_name = i.index_name AND s.segment_name = t.table_name Of course the same modifications are necessary for other versions of Oracle. DDL::Oracle has been updated to produce DDL for Oracle 7.3 and 8.0 databases for the following: TABLES INDEXES TABLESPACES Program defrag.pl now does an ANALYZE TABLE/INDEX after the import for objects which were previously analyzed. It also has been revised to handle tables containing '$' in their names. Some changes for robustness have been made, such as verifying that log directories are writeable before file creation. And a few bugs were squashed. Richard ===== Richard Sutherland rvs...@ya... Release 0.23 now ready for download. It has significant performance improvements. Actually, they're not significant. Rather they are MAJOR performance improvements -- 2 or 3 orders of magnitude on large databases. One functional bug is fixed in this release -- the REBUILD of unusable indexes following a defrag of a tablespace with partitioned objects was not working, but now is (we think). And we were inadvertantly adding a blank line to Trigger text, and that is now fixed. Your comments are, as always, sought and appreciated. ===== Richard Sutherland rvs...@ya...
