if more file extensions than BASE.000 (ie: traditional 3 digit numeric) are needed, the program aborts with a message: file extensions exhausted. Users don't know in advance how many extensions will be needed and thus may not indicate the proper width of the extension. The program should provide message or information, but should still increase the index, even it means going Hex, or adding a width digit. waiting a few hours for a file extension exhausted abort error is no fun.
