If we're going to break most of the interfaces anyway, then I would agree with this change, because I prefer interface names *not* to start with an extra 'I'. On the other hand, if we are leaving most of the interfaces just as they are today, then I feel that it's not worth the disruption. I will have a look through the interfaces tomorrow to see how many I think would change. I guess we need to compile a list of API changes for the documentation. What is the status of our project hosting now? Where is the master code repo? Hi all, I wish to know your opinion on dropping the I prefix for interfaces currently used in the dbUnit 2.x codebase. This will introduce a great change and greatly break backward compatibility with a small improvement, in my opinion, in API naming. Do you think it is worth the change? I'm doubtful myself... |

Inside the createQueryTable function it has this line of code: logger.debug("createQueryTable: rowCount={}", Integer.valueOf(rsTable.getRowCount())); This throws an UnsupportedOperationException when using the ForwardOnlyResultSetTable and fails. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: SourceForge Robot (sf-robot) Date: 2010-12-22 15:20 Message: This Tracker item was closed automatically by the system. I'm currently spending a couple of days on the next generation, I wish to start putting down what I've done so we can discuss something real. I'm going to use Maven 3, JUnit 4 and Java 6 as starting base and I'm going to start writing down Annotations and Builder leaving all the big stuff out for a second round. About JUnit 4 I don't have a great confidence with it, for what I know we have to create a custom TestRunner to be specified with the annotation @RunWith to get our annotations parsed and working. I think this can be a problem when our users want to use our extension in conjuction with some other extension. Is there any other way to get our annotation parsed and operational other than the custom runner? Do you know of any standard ExtendableTestRunner capable of accepting some kind of TestRunnerListener or something like that? |

What is the proper procedure? Great! Create a tracker entry for each feature/bug fix and attach the patch file. The patch will contain the diffs of your prod code changes and tests that prove the change works. If you don't know how to create a patch, let me know your OS, IDE, etc. Email the dev list after a week or two if there has been no action on it (i.e. commit) as a reminder. Thank you for your investigation and forthcoming patch(es)! |

Guys, I thought I should let you know. I'm still really excited to work on DbUnit 3.0 and I was hoping to do something on it over our Christmas/summer break. (I'm in New Zealand. So, we're nearly into our summer holiday here.) But unfortunately I am down to working only part time and spending most of my time in bed, because I've got a painful condition in my neck and back since October. It is mostly associated with sitting at a desk. This will prevent me doing any work on DbUnit until I recover, I'm afraid. I have been trying physiotherapy for eight weeks now but it's not improving. I have a specialist appointment this Thursday, but with the holiday period coming it's unlikely I will get any new treatment until February. What a drag. Hi, we are trying to us dbunit to extract data from a multi-lingual database from an installation and import the data on developers machines for their own testing. I have found the basics of dbunit to be working well but have a few questions/concerns: 1) What is the best file format to use to exchange mutli-lingual data? I investigated FlatXml* classes but since XML imposes limitations on the valid characters that can be stored in XML (characters less than 0x20 are considered invalid) this is not an option. The Csv* classes seem to not have this limitation. Assuming CSV is the proper format for the data exchange, this leads to more questions after further investigation (based on 2.4.8): 2) CsvDataSetWriter, CsvDataSet use the default character encoding when writing and reading of the CSV files. This seems to limit the data to western characters. Should the CSV files always be written in UTF-8 or should the character set be configurable. 3) Why is there an interface CsvParser defined but no alternative implementation to CsvParserImpl can be used in CsvProducer? Should it be possible to create an alternative CSV parser and set it on the CsvProducer instance? 4) The CsvParserImpl seems to have severe performance issues with large files (we have a file that contains ~7000 records and a size of 200MB. CsvParserImpl seems to never finish parsing the file. I have written an alternative parser that can parse the file in less than 10 seconds. I have made changes to my local dbunit sources and would be happy to share by changes with you. What is the proper procedure? Well, unless I misunderstood something Codehaus can provide us hudson and
the other stuff but I don't think they are going to give us any server to
run integrations tests againsts real databases.... can someone confirm that?
The next days will be very interesting for the dbUnit project... ;-)
I really need to get confidence with the codehaus stuff...

I'll state again: my employer will setup a server we can use and
install all DBs we need. No charge, no problem. I stopped that from
happening because you were moving to Codehaus.
Do you want me to resume that effort?

Bugs item #3139139, was opened at 2010-12-17 17:02 Message generated for change (Tracker Item Submitted) made by zigarn You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=449491&aid=3139139&group_id=47439 Please note that this message will contain a full copy of the comment thread, including the initial issue submission, for this request, not just the latest update. Category: Bug Group: None Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Alexandre Garnier (zigarn) Assigned to: matthias g (gommma) Summary: List of table not taken from DTD Initial Comment: When loading a XML file with DTD, DBUnit get table order from XML file. But when we want to clean and there was row creation in a table not listed (and not cleaned) in the XML and having a FK to a listed (and cleaned) table, we got FK violation. When cleaning, table list should be extracted from DTD and not only XML. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=449491&aid=3139139&group_id=47439 |

I think you will not be able to install Oracle 10 or other such "enterprise"
grade database with such a configuration man... And with 2GB of storage you
have not even the space needed by such engines.... I'm not sure how much
space they need but I'm quite sure it is much more than that.

Hi,
Spec:
800 MHz 512 MB 2 GB
debian linux
I would install mentioned databases.
Hudson results could be available to everybody.
It is fully online. It is cloud solution - under development, but for
DbUnit integration tests should be fine. We could get better CPU and
more hdd if necessary, all parameters are scalable online except
memory ( max configurable is 512 MB right now). I am able get 1GB .
I am going to install the databases you mentioned.
Regards,
Zdenek

what kind of virtual server are we talking about? Will you be able to
install such database engines onto it? Will it be able to receive
connections from the internet?

Hi Roberto,
I have one virtual server for free.
Are you interested?
I would have time to maintain that server, but after Christmas :).

Humm.. this pushes us again toward an integration test platform.... I must
do something to solve this problem, definitely.... I think I'll go for
Amazon as it seem other options have failed and I'm now really tired to have
such a fear any change can break other integrations.
I would like starting with the following databases:
Oracle 10
PostgreSQL 8
mySQL 5
HiperSQL (HSQLDB) 2
JDBC drivers yet have a great role on dbUnit test results... any suggestion
about how to solve the problem? Use the "official" where available or the
"mostly adopted" could be the solution?

Hi guys,
I encountered a problem with using schema names today. The funny
thing is there is a comment by gomma on the line I needed to change to
fix - line 116 of AbstractDatabaseConnection.java says "// TODO Think
about QualifiedTableNames here - needed or not?".
This is the current method:
public ITable createTable(String tableName) throws
DataSetException, SQLException
{
logger.debug("createTable(tableName={}) - start", tableName);
if (tableName == null) {
throw new NullPointerException("The parameter 'tableName'
must not be null");
}
String sql = "select * from " + tableName; // TODO Think about
QualifiedTableNames here - needed or not?
return this.createQueryTable(tableName, sql);
}
This is my suggested change:
public ITable createTable(String tableName) throws
DataSetException, SQLException
{
logger.debug("createTable(tableName={}) - start", tableName);
if (tableName == null) {
throw new NullPointerException("The parameter 'tableName'
must not be null");
}
// qualify with schema if configured
QualifiedTableName qualifiedTableName =
new QualifiedTableName(tableName, this.getSchema());
String qualifiedName = qualifiedTableName.getQualifiedName();
String sql = "select * from " + qualifiedName;
return this.createQueryTable(tableName, sql);
}
With adding the schema name to the table query, the problem I
encountered went away.
Do any of you see any problem with this change? If not, I will commit.
Existing dbUnit tests pass and another of my customer apps with lots
of dbUnit tests but no schema name still works.
It makes me wonder how tests with schemas currently work! They must
not be using this method!

Yes, you're right. The discussion should be on dbunit-user. I've copied that list and we can follow up there. Hmm. The XMLType support in DbUnit was added in 2.4.0. It extends BlobDataType and thus makes some interesting assumptions about string values. For example, it will attempt to read a string as a URL resource, and as a filename. Reading the string as raw text likely would not work for XML, because BlobDataType seems to assume a String value is a Base64 encoding of some bytes -- probably not how you would encode your XML data! But I tried using the file variant of BlobDataType, and I got no XML data loaded. I looked at the implementation. It sets the value into the database via the Oracle OPAQUE data type. Experimenting with OPAQUE directly, I wasn't able to get that to work either. I've worked with XML in Oracle using DbUnit a lot in the past, but with DbUnit 2.2, and I created my own support for it some time ago. I use the Oracle XMLType rather than OPAQUE. I've been meaning to merge some of my stuff into DbUnit trunk for a long time now (keep getting side tracked). We could also do with more tests here. In any case, I have an Oracle dbunit-samples project, to which I've added some code to support XMLType, which works for me. You can have a look at https://github.com/johnbhurst/dbunit-samples. There are some Ant tasks to create a schema, and run some tests. You will need to put an Oracle JDBC driver jar, and xdb.jar and xmlparserv2.jar, into lib/system, for this to work. (The project should download all other required JARs using Ivy.) This project is a work in progress! I'm hoping eventually to merge it into the DbUnit project, and also to refer people there from the FAQ where appropriate.
