A quick update on git and plugin changes - The dbunit-maven-plugin has been unreleased since transferring from Codehaus to the dbUnit source repo many years ago. Recently, we made some minor updates and released it. [0] After that release, we also split the plugin into its own git repo [1] and updated it to build and generate its website. We created a dbunit-aggregator module [2] to easily facilitate publishing the Maven site for both products. The site now has a simple landing page with each product accessible via the modules links [3]. As usual, please let us know if you find any issues or have fixes to contribute. We have updated the integration tests page: http://dbunit.sourceforge.net/integrationtests.html with info on running dbUnit integration tests against the supported databases running in Docker containers. If you are building dbUnit and running the integration tests, this approach greatly eases the setup needed to run the them with the various databases. Special thanks to Andrew Landsverk for spearheading this! |

We want to change to Java 8 for dbUnit build target; it's currently set to Java 5. dbUnit has been around a long time, and has historically and deliberately stayed with an older JVM release to prevent forcing running with only current JVMs. While Java 6 and 7 had good improvements, Java 8 has monumental changes. We could instead change to 6 or 7, but specifically, forthcoming 2.6.0 release can use Java 8 features (PrepAndExpectedTestCase should use default interface methods) Any reasons for us not to change to Java 8? https://sourceforge.net/p/dbunit/feature-requests/219/ |

Greetings, I have code to reset an oracle sequence. It would also be easy to add support for other database later on. The code is generic, not adapted for dbunit. Within dbunit, where could such code go? What interface should be created to provide the feature? Best regards, Hans Deragon |

Normally I prefer "yes if it give you a compile error, otherwise no", but targeting runtime without the new feature will fail (depends on how the compiler/jvm implement the change - new bytecode tokens added or not; I don't know the internal change to support String in switch). Java 5 is very old and hopefully changing to 7 poses no problem. Hi, thanks for asking. Good comments: the two best references I know of: * http://tbaggery.com/2008/04/19/a-note-about-git-commit-messages.html * https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/GitCommitMessages Yes, please include an issue number when possible to help with historical. In a commit with more than a simple change, please also include an updated "changes.xml" if you can. The info relates to an issue number, so it is a reminder to already have an bug or feature item. changes.xml generates to a page on the web site for more easily understand the release changes. Greetings, You stated that dbUnit is now compiled with Java 7, but in dbunit/pom.xml, I see the following: <compileSource>1.5</compileSource> Should I bump it to 1.7? I want to make use of a switch statement on a String, a feature that is not available in 1.5. Best regards, Hans Deragon |

2.5.3 is available in Maven Central. We have many fixes and improvements in this release with multiple contributors! Thank you very much for the reports and pull requests; they continue to improve dbUnit. http://dbunit.sourceforge. net/changes-report.html 2.5.3 changes should be backwards compatible but you may encounter slightly different behavior with timezones and table name case sensitivity due to corrections. Please refer to the changes report for the details. Please continue contributing code changes, requesting enhancements, and reporting issues! |

Please find below some status report for development of JUnit compliant report created when using DbUnit ant task.
If you have such an ant task,
<!-- Test case if report is created correctly -->
<target name="test-report">
<dbunit driver="${dbunit.profile.driverClass}"
report="report.xml"
url="${dbunit.profile.url}"
userid="${dbunit.profile.user}"
password="${dbunit.profile.password}">
<operation type="CLEAN_INSERT" src="${testDataSet}"/>
<export dest="${exportDataSet}" format="xml">
<table name="TEST_TABLE" />
</export>
<compare src="${exportDataSet}" format="xml" name="Check TEST_TABLE against export">
<table name="TEST_TABLE" />
</compare>
<operation type="CLEAN_INSERT" src="${testDataSetChanged}"/>
<compare src="${exportDataSet}" format="xml" name="Check TEST_TABLE after data changed">
<table name="TEST_TABLE" />
</compare>
</dbunit>
<delete file="${exportDataSet}"/>
</target>
you then get such an XML report.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no"?>
<testsuite errors="0" failures="1" name="test-report" tests="5" time="128.0" timestamp="2016-07-04 17:09">
<properties/>
<testcase classname="" name="Operation" time="68.0"/>
<testcase classname="" name="Export" time="27.0"/>
<testcase classname="" name="Check TEST_TABLE against export" time="17.0"/>
<testcase classname="" name="Operation" time="8.0"/>
<testcase classname="" name="Check TEST_TABLE after data changed" time="8.0">
<failure message="value (table=TEST_TABLE, row=1, col=COLUMN1) expected:<[row 1 col] 1> but was:<[different value] 1>" type="ComparisonFailure"/>
</testcase>
</testsuite>
This XML can be opened in JUnit View in Eclipse or HTML report can be created using ant. Looks nice so far.
Other than planned at the beginning, I decided to write an own XML report writer, because the ant junitreport class too much bound to TestSuite, TestCase etc. which DbUnitTask and DbUnitTaskStep from org.dbunit.ant is not. You will see in the merge request, that this is solution is quite straight forward.
I have also introduced a new optional parameter „name" for ant task export, operation and compare to have a nice name in the JUnit report.
I am currently preparing some more unit tests.

I have created a new merge request https://sourceforge.net/p/dbunit/code.git/merge-requests/18/ <https://sourceforge.net/p/dbunit/code.git/merge-requests/18/>, which rolls back my previous merge request 17 and sets Ant basedir to working location in the JUnit launcher.
