the db-docit project

Welcome to the home of the db-docit project, an open source initiative to develop adaptable and customizable software tools for database professionals, business analysts and information technology professionals at all levels of involvement with the management of business critical data.

This home-site for the project is the best place to start for general information about the project, its related components and modules as well as discussions on how our products
have succeeded and/or encountered challenges when implemented in the "field".

About the Initiative

db-docit is shorthand for the documentation (hence: "doc-it" for "document-it") and the advancement of effective information management policies through clarity of design, specification, planning, implementation, testing and support of database modeling projects.

Tools built on this concept are focused on supporting tasks surrounding modeling for OLTP, OLAP and Warehousing database projects.

What's Your DB?

The db-docit initiative is intended to build tools that are independent of the target database system. The suite of db-docit tools are based on making simple but scalable software products using platforms and technologies that are freely available; the source for these tools are also published and available for further customization.

Our Vision

While the software used to manage today's modern database implementations and projects are pushed to the limits of complexity, the db-docit project is also built around principles of simplicity and clarity of design. Providing useful, feature-rich apps are only a part of our objective; the overall vision is help organizations and businesses establish a multi-faceted hub for coordinating database planning and support tasks between professionals from a myriad of different backgrounds and responsibilities.

Call for Developers and IT Professionals

Have experience in planning, design, implementation, testing or support of database systems and technologies? The db-docit project can use your input in evaluating and commenting on the early iterations of our applications.

Part of the value of our application design approach is to integrate proven, time-honored and standardized techniques to improve the quality of the data management projects managed through them. That's where input from experienced IT professionals is incredibly valuable feedback for the community of users who will eventually start using these tools. Alternatively, these tools are intended to allow enough flexibility to modify their features to custom fit different needs.
