hello I am writing this post because i have just started DBAN with "autonuke" command and it has prompted me a waiting time of more than 12 hours...
[my HDD is a WD 1TB (only around 60-70GB used tho) 32MB buffer and 5400rpm speed while cpu is an i5 760 @ 4x 2.8GHz on an asus p7p55d-e pro board]
is this correct? what should i do to reduce (if possible) the waiting time?

    thanks in advance

That amount of time is normal for a drive your size. Autonuke uses the DoD Short algorithm, which overwrites the entire contents of the hard drive, then it verifies erasure. The amount of space used has no effect on the time it takes for DBAN to work because it erases all user-addressable sectors regardless of their content.
