Some programs read a full directory on each access.
So if you load a file, edit it and save it again it
could mean 3 x reads of a directory - which can be
quite slow.
Therefore, some form of local directory caching, with
flushing every xx seconds (configurable) would have
been nice.

    I fully agree, because that is what I am working on. You may
    have a look at our CVS repository, branch
    'select-coda-version'. It is still in pre-beta-state, but I
    hope there will be a first release within a month.
