is there a way around the restrication that root has to prefill fstab with the allowed dav destinations and mount points?
E.g. in windows one simply can connect a DAV url to a drive letter, without having administrator rights.
as mounting may affect the security of a system, on Unix systems mounting is under full control of the administrator. davfs2 follows this traditional Unix aproach and there is no way to mount without permission of the admin (if there is one, it's a bug).
But there are efforts to allow user mounts without permission by the admin in a secure way. Please have a look at
