I have some problems getting the migration to work. I am exporting to a text file my library from another application (comma separated). When I try to import into Data Crow (beta 2) I seem to be hitting an issue with not being able to choose the fields handled by modules (author, publisher, etc...) When the field chooser comes up for author for instance, in the list of Data Crow field choices author does not appear. Instead I only have the static fields (title, ISBN, etc...). It seems like the migration tool is not integrating into the new modules for author, publisher etc... or at least I am doing something wrong. I wasn't sure if this is the type of issue you were looking for in your "missing feature" post so I posted it separate.
Thank your for your input. At this moment you might be able to achieve what you want:
- import your authors, publishers into their dedicated modules
- import your books
During the book import the author / publisher will be linked based on their name.
Does this help you in anyway?
I can see how you want this to work and I will change this after the 3.0 version. I am certainly aware of the immaturity of the migration tool. This will be addressed after the 3.0 version is in production. Any input, like you have given, will help to improve this functionality.
I'll try doing them separate. The tricky part is my exported data includes all these fields and Data crow will not complete the import without all the fields being matched so I would have to edit my source file and pull out those fields which I can do but makes for several extra steps. If I could choose to skip some of the fields during the import that might be nice as well.
I see your point. I will include this in my plans for the migration wizard.
