Currently each planet has a fixed inhabitability index
between -100 and
100. An index > 0 means the planet is inhabitable. I
have thought of
giving each planet a max and current inhabitability
index. So for
example a planet could have a max inhab index of 35 and
a current inhab index of 20. Teraforming could bring
the current inhab index from 20 to the max of 35. Wars
or antimatter bombs could decrease the current inhab
index from 20 to 10.
The reason I like the idea of having a max and current
inhab index is that I think it allows the plugin
generating a universe to create interesting situations
in at the beggining of a game and for players to create
interesting situations during the game.
Right now the Inhab index affects the rate of Fuel
production on a colony. In future releases of the game
the rate of Fuel productions will be a feature of the
planet that is independent of the Inhab index.
This will give universe designers more freedom. For
instance someone could create a universe where only
unhabitable planets produce fuel.
Anyway what the inhab index will affect in the future
is the amount of
time it take a colony to build ships, generate
colonist, and generate
robots. So the higher the current inhab index the
faster a colony can
build stuff.
