#5 Map load fails (Starcraft 1.08b, no BW)
I installed Starcraft 1.00 (no Brood War expansion)
and patched it to 1.08b (using Battle.Net) on my
Aunt's family's computer. The computer has the
following specs:
Athlon XP +1700
Windows 2000 (SR2)
256MB RAM
Riva TNT2 graphics card
37.2GB Hard Drive (34.6GB free)
Each time I tried to run one of the two release
builds of Dark Nova, regardless of the SCM map I tried
to load, a message box popped up stating that the
program could not load the map. The program then
terminates, and correctly restores the video back to
it's previous setting.
I suspect what's going on is that our program only
works on the Brood War game data. The operating system
was recently reinstalled and Starcraft was installed
and patched immediately before running Dark Nova. I
did not attempt to load any SCX maps.
Note that the MPQ, sound and PCX support worked
fine. I was able to see the title screen with BIN
dialog text, and I heard the title music playing. This
means that the failure occurred either when loading
the make or loading the non-map game data, such as
IScripts or unit data.
If it is indeed the situation that Dark Nova only
runs on Starcraft + Brood War, this situation must be
given the highest priority and rectified immediately.
I will be checking in on this problem almost daily.
