Audio doesn't start automatically (or at all) on my computer but does on Howard's. Is this to do with the presence of QuickTime? We feel Howard's integrated Flash Player may be neater here:

MP4 video should play fine in supported browsers. FLV won't play even if it serves as a wrapper for an MP4 file so its use is discouraged.
Essentially the conversion expects browsers to support basic HTML5 capabilities (e.g. <audio>, <video>).
Safari and Chrome handle these files fine. Firefox currently excludes MP4 video though.

Thanks for suggesting the Flash player. Is it open source and suitable for redistribution, do you think?
My hope was to skip Flash players for audio and video, but if there's a superior player under a suitable license we could use it of course.
