Hi
We are trying to use the d3e hypernews digital document
discourse environment to publish scholarly papers to
the web for author's to collaborate on. The problem
that we are running into is in regard to the html
documents. The profs write articles in word and save
in html format, however, these don't translate into
anything that the d3e generator can do anything with.
I guess we don't really understand what needs to be the
document layout? There needs to be an abstract at the
beginning of a document.. how is it distinquished in
normal document.. not in the html that it is eventually
saved in. How can the profs indicate in their papers
that something is suppose to have a <h1></h1> tag?
They just write a paper and are hoping that it will be
changed into html by Word. It is, but not with <h1>
tags..
This is what we get when we try to generate the d3e
files:
=====================================================
Processing
"C:\WINDOWS\Profiles\Joyce\Desktop\d3e\D3E-Toolkit-v4.1
.1\articles-in\Divine_Ped.htm"
Inserting breaks

Scanning References to create index
Collecting Internal Links

There are 0 internal links

Making standard files
C:\WINDOWS\Profiles\Joyce\Desktop\d3e\D3E-Toolkit-v4.1.
1\articles-out\Divine article output\ (Access is
denied)
Rewriting references file
Task Completed
The generated output files have been placed in:
"C:\WINDOWS\Profiles\Joyce\Desktop\d3e\D3E-Toolkit-v4.1
.1\articles-out\Divine article output"
Click "Full Article" to preview the article output.
Click "Discussion Header" to preview the header that
appears at the top of the discussion threads.
======================================================
"Full Article" button is grayed out.
Clicking on "Discussion Heasder" results in nothing
happening.
Clicking on "View Report" brings up dialog box that
says that there was no report generated.
We really, really like this environment, but are at a
loss as to how to get our papers into the right format
to work with it.
Any suggestions, other than that we get out of the
business :)
These guys and gals are really tops in their fields,
but have no knowledge of creating html; we are
hoping that you will be able to help us find a way to
prepare these files so that they can be used by d3e
hypernews.
Sincerely,
Joyce Miletic
