No

I wonder if you could add the support for custom player weapons in HAM files(not VHAM) for Campaigns/Missions without even replacing the main DESCENT2.HAM file with the edited one(e.g. yourmod.ham). It has to be like in a different format(I was thinking of like an .XAM file).

I agree that this would be a really great thing to add.

From having looked at the code, making weapons after that fashion would be a huge endeavour.

Okay, I have a better idea for custom player weapon support.
    here it is:
If you add a .wea file(extracted from a .ham file) into the .hog, it'll modifiy that weapon(I was thinking like laser1.wea for example) such as Laser Level 1(player) or Player Concussion Missile(conc.wea) or for robot weapons, the file has to start with an R(e.g. rconc.wea). If it doesn't work or it's a bad idea, we'll try something else. ;)

Or we could try making the .wea file like let's just say, for the homing missile(player), as wpn15.wea or laser level 1(player) as wpn00.wea and put those in a .hog file.
(hopefully we don't have to replace the main descent2.ham file with the modded version)
