I've been working on the Win32 version of a data_view, and I have this
to say: the API for the ListView control is extremely badly designed.

I knew this from back when I was writing MFC apps, but having to look at
it at this level of detail has been an eye-opener.  It looks like
something a 12-year-old would design.  Seriously.  It's bad even by
Microsoft's standards.  Anybody know who was responsible for this
abortion?  Maybe I'll pay him a visit and kick his ass.

Apart from that, it's also totally inflexible.  I'm beginning to believe
I'll have to write a custom control to get what I want.
