I have seen a WM written in Java that supports X, and I even tried it
out once.  I was running on a PII 400, and it wasn't all that peppy, but
like I said, the speed of CPUs is increasing very rapidly, and I think
things like this, and even a complete OS written in java (I helped out a
project, called JOS, the Java Operating System, which is working toward
this goal) is not out of the question.
