Well...here's a question then...

If we had a good enough, fast enough, tight enough runtime, wouldn't it make sense to make an ENTIRE desktop in Java...for Linux?

startx could pull up an empty X, and run 

/usr/java/bin/java KickAssDesktop

And... voila!
