As the Lame MP3 project has recently released a minor update to their excellent MP3 encoder engine (v3.93.1), the cwenc setup has been updated with this change. No other change has been added to cwenc compared to release 1.1. If you are one of those individuals, who simply *must* have the latest version of any piece of software, then you need to download and install this upgrade. But if the prior cwenc release 1.1 works fine for you, then "don't fix what ain't broke". Mikkel Elmholdt http://cwenc.sourceforge.net/ |

A new version 1.1 of cwenc - the free MP3 and Ogg Vorbis encoder for Cakewalk - can now be downloaded at http://cwenc.sourceforge.net/. Besides some minor bugfixes, cwenc will now allow you to keep ID tag settings in existing MP3/Ogg files, if you have used an external tag editor to modify these. Support for bitrates down to 32 kbps has also been added. A side remark: If you are encoding lower bit rates MP3 (< 96 kbps) for size reasons, you should really try the Ogg Vorbis format. I tried encoding a file at 56 kbps, and where the MP3 file sounded like sh*t the Ogg file (which was smaller than the MP3 file) sounded pretty good. At 128 kbps and above, the difference is not as marked however. Mikkel Elmholdt |
