However! CVS Monitor does NOT have to be installed on the repository. You can install it just about anywhere, and point it at the anonymous account for the project, and it will pull the data out.

Yeah, CVS Monitor isn't a resource hog, it would be a huge resource drain in a high-usage environment like SourceForge. That said, it's slowly getting better about resource usage. It's a long way from being effective for mass usage though.
