I have 2 nearly identical systems on different logical partitions of the same hard drive in the same machine. Both are fully updated Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, 64 bit, with plain Openbox and nothing further in the way of a DE. So they're not only nearly identical, they are pretty simple systems. Firefox is 48.0 and Custom Buttons is 0.0.5.8.9 in both cases. In both cases, CB preferences shows the same 3 options with checkboxes:
show save button in code editor
Disable buttons initialization (use . . .
Save size and position . . .
and they are all unchecked.
BUT:
CB has a very different UI on the 2 systems. It LOOKS like 2 different versions. On the system where CB works, if I right click on a button, I get a menu with 2 sections, each section having 2 entries, like this:
New Button . . .
Delete
---------
Properties . . .
Opions . . .
If I click properties I get a gui configuration dialog for that particular button. The dialog has 3 sections. The first setion has fields labeled:
Label
Tooltip
Path
In the other system, if I right click on a button, I get a longer menu with 4 sections and a total of 7 items, like this:
Edit button
Delete button
Clone button
Copy to clipboard
Customize
Add new button
The dialog I get by clicking the edit entry is similar, though by no means identical, to the one I get clicking properties on the system that works. But no matter how I fill those fields in, the button doesn't DO anything.
But the main point is that the UI is so different it is hard to avoid the conclusion I have 2 different versions, despite the same version number. I just completely deleted all buttons and then removed Custom Buttons on the system that it didn't work on, and reinstalled CB, and recreated a button, but it is still the same problem and still the same strangely different UI. In the interest of figuring this out, I COULD do the same on the system where it works, but I'm somewhat l disinclined to risk breaking it too, if there is another way to figure this out.
I'm stumped. What am I missing?
Sorry about how my lines messed with the formatting above. I can't seem to edit the post, despite allowing all scripts, and trying with styles turned off. I think the descriptiton of the context menu on a custom button on the system where it works came out ok. Here is a screen shot of the same thing on the system where it doesn't work.
