#530 curl: (23) Failed writing body


Download of (arbitrary) files using -O fails with

curl: (23) Failed writing body

The same downloads with -o ${filename} succeed.

curl.exe 7.14.0 from the official binaries under Windows
2000 with Service Pack 4 and all hotfixes installed.
This bug appeared about three months ago!

    This is simply because you ask curl to create a file name
    which your operating system (or perhaps more accurately your
    file system) doesn't allow it to use.

    It isn't obvious how a good fix for this would be, why I am
    tempted to just leave this and tell users to use -o for
    cases like this.
