Hi Scott, I do not see a clear advantage with the api but I have seen similar things somewhere else so there must be something :). As long as the package format remains and the back-end is pkgtools, I am not worried. When adding repos and extra package sets, there is need for more features. Just look at all the add-ons for slackware that are made to handle installing extra stuff on top. I wonder if there will be extra dependencies needed. Ideally a linux distro is build in layers with the first one being ch5 the next ch6 and all others on top of ch6 OR ch6 plus a set of dependencies. This way broken packages should be non-existing. Even on a partial install (compared to a full slackware-like install). I'll focus on ch5 and next up is the defined set of a ch6-like base system and where the new buildsystem fits.
