#16 winxp+x800 lighting problem

I have the latest ATI Radeon drivers, an x800pro, and
i'm running winxp without service packs. I can run the
game but all the cubes are black. I can see the sky so
I know that some things work and I can tell there is
movement and even pick up powerups (I bump into them in
the dark, they are also black). If I do not load a
level i can sometimes see a white and green grid upon
which i can draw a red rectangle.
