the ASCII-art variant of the CTruck3D car simulator series by Simon Hasur : a physically very realistic offroad driving simulator (rally ) in which one can drive in total freedom on a piece of terrain, make jumps, turn upside down and whatever ; see CTruck3D _Open and XCTruck3D _Truck
for more detailes. this is a variant which displays graphics using only ASCII characters. This is quite instructive as software, expecially if taken in conjuction with the pure X Window System version: in both cases the 3D frames representing what happens are done internally by the program, using basic concepts form 3D computational graphics. Stanrd C as all the optehr memeberso of the series.
it come in 2 subversions: Linux and Windows. for the Windows version there is a ready executable too. VIDEO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_O-9EFW5zk
Features
- it's the seme program as XCTruck3D _Truck but it display the 'pixels' throught a text terminal, inserting a matrix of coloured characters, throught the fast and non-vibrating text-display functionality offered by any Linux/UNIX terminal throught the Curses Library.
- has Windows version thanks to the TChar.h library. Windows is, moreover abit more generous with colors available in the text terminal (promt MS-DOS); in fact the WInodws version looks and works a bit better.
- similar flavour of thoe first serious 3D games like STUNTS[1990] which also tried to provide some at least some little realistic physics.
- The programming level of complexity is *excactly* that of Snake. Since original Snake and Tetris games running under DOS were all ASCII-Art.
