I am interested in adding another language (AutoIt) to Ctags. I am not a 'C' programmer, but I think that I understand the example given in the manual.

I am having trouble compiling the source to the ctags executable. What is the easiest free compiler I can use? I have tried MinGW with no luck. Any help with how to compile would be greatly appreciated.

the best place for support requests (because someone will actually read the request and respond is a timely fashion is the ctags-users or ctags-devel mailing list). i recommend opening a discussion there.

in the meantime, if you use Cygwin (i assume from the mention of MinGW that you're using Windows), you can definitely build from source easily. i know because i did so today ;-)

if you want specific help with MinGW, you'll have to show us your specific problem. again, i recommend the mailing list (actual Windows users will probably read your request there), but i've assigned this support request to me anyway, so if you reply here i will see it and will continue to try to help.

This was a long time ago, but I think that I got it working in the end. Problem is that the program that I wanted to extend with the ctags did not use them in the way that I thought it would, so it turned out to be a waste of time trying to create them.

Anyway, thanks for getting back to me. I will close this log.
