On the left side is a great place to write the row number - instead of waiting for a selection to show the selected row's number. Im guessing a semi transparent colour would be a good idea.
And when theres a filter applied, write "[Displayed_row_nr] ([Unfiltered_row_nr])", so that the unfiltered number is calculated before any filtering is done.
