What version of the program are you using? Click on "About" under the Help menu to find out.
What happens when you click on the "pattern" button - Is there a message? does the program disappear? does nothing at all happen?
How many colors does the image you're trying to pattern contain? More specifically, what is the number of colors reported above the color list along the right side of the window?
