Hi, all. I've updated TheButtonMatrix extension in csimage.developers.dvanhumb to use a separate window for the buttons, showing it only when there are buttons to display. You should be able to see it if you wait a couple hours (maybe until 1pm today, but I'm not sure). I just know that commits don't appear right after you commit them. Anyway, comments and feedback accepted. Daryl. -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Version: 7.0.308 / Virus Database: 266.11.0 - Release Date: 29/04/05 |

Ok, I've updated TheButtonMatrix, completing support for placing the buttons in any of five different positions (at the top of the window, the bottom of the window, to the left, the right, and in a separate, moveable window), as well as all three of the default buttons (load, save and close). I haven't yet included an icon for load because I'm working on that image. If anyone has any comments, please send them to me so I can address them. Hi Daryl, I tried TheButtonMatrix test, and I think almost all there ... But a there are some issues: - Some combinations of calling buttonsDetached() and, for instance, buttonsAtTop(), don't seem to work correctly, e.g. The buttons appear at the top but attached. I suggest that for now the detached buttons option be disabled, and only have attached buttons. - When the buttons are attached to the image, they cover up part of the image. Better is to have a separate panel beside/above/below the image that's attached to the same frame and holds the buttons so that none of the image is obscured. With those changes, I think it's ready to add to TheMatrix as a new main feature. Ok, I wasn't sure if the buttens were supposed to be able to be attached, yet positioned someplace, or just detached in a default position. Yes, having options of places to put the detached "toolbar" sounds like a good idea. To change the part about the buttons obscuring the image when they're still attached, I'd have to delve into the repaint code, and maybe add another class (e.g., a BufferedImageIcon) to handle drawing the image. I'll see what's easier. Daryl. Toby Donaldson wrote: >Hi Daryl, > >I tried TheButtonMatrix test, and I think almost all there ... Hi, all, As per Toby's previous suggestion, I've changed the button panel's default background colour to White. I've also added more "ways" to activate the context menu, namely, BUTTON2 & Shift+BUTTON1. I hope that helps somewhat. Otherwise, I can't figure out what's wrong with the menus on Linux and Max OS X. You might want to check which version of Java you're using, but I don't have any experience working with Java on Linux/Unix, so I don't know how to help yet. I'm very puzzled :-( Daryl. -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Version: 7.0.323 / Virus Database: 267.6.6 - Release Date: 08/06/05 |

An update on my testing: A few days ago I finally had my Linux box set up and have spent the last few days locating and installing the dependencies and finally I can do work on it. Unfortunately, it's only 200MHz (as apposed to 1.8GHz on my Windows PC), and only has 144Megs of RAM, so it runs R-E-A-L-L-Y slow. Also, the first time I ran TheButtonMatrixTest, Eclipse crashed with a fatal exception. But it did work the way it was written, for a few seconds. Daryl. While it does crash occasionally, I can still test parts of csjava on it. I don't have enough experience working with Linux's command-line to be comfortable with using a command-line cvs tool. Yet. I don't know which other Java IDEs integrate CVS tools, although that = most configurable IDEs would allow for it. Whether it's as "easy" as in = Eclipse is another question. On an older machine, it might be better to look for a lightweight Java editor, and a separate CVS client. It's only a minor inconvenience to = have different tools for Java and CVS. And you should be afraid of the command-line CVS tools. They have lots = of options, but for basic checking-in and checking-out they are pretty = simple to use; you can probably crib from other examples. I don't want to run both Windows and Linux on the same computer at the same time becuase I can't run them at the same time. I like being able to switch between Windows and Linux with a KVM switch (basically with pressing Scroll Lock twice). That means I can start something potentially long on one computer then switch to the other and do something there while I wait. I don't know anything about VMware, is it an emulator of sorts? Daryl. Daryl, when I run TheButtonMatrixTest, I don't see any other windows or buttons, just the picture. I think the calling code is still a little too complex. I think it would be better if --- for the generic save/load/save buttons --- it worked like this: TheButtonMatrix bm = new TheButtonMatrix("something.jpg"); bm.enableSaveButton(); bm.enableLoadButton(); bm.enableCloseButton(); I've added an interface called GenericButtons to your developer package. Have TheButtonMatrix implement it. Good point about having an interface to implement. However, stuff like buttonsAt[whatever]() may have restrictions, like must be called before any buttons have been added, or must be called while the window is not visible, otherwise it might not display/work unless I specifically add code to fix threading issues. I wasn't quite finished the code, I hadn't finished testing it, so it still had some bugs in it. I don't know what you added to know what to keep, so I might just overwrite something you had in there. So if you find I removed something, I probably didn't notice it. Also, what do you think about having a small icon for the "default" buttons? I'm thinking they're not such a good idea because they indicate that they're "pre-built," and not just included with the programs. In other words, because these buttons have icons, all the buttons that your programs add need icons so they don't look out of place. Daryl.
