What steps will reproduce the problem?
0. Ensure phone is not on do not disturb and that ring volume is at max in android settings.
1. Place a call to a SIP account on the csipsimple
2. Observe the incoming call on the nexus with no ringtone coming from rear speaker or ear speaker.
3. Change ringtone to another tone in csipsimple config and still does not work.
4. At times, the ring is audible. I am not sure under which circumstances that it actually is audible.
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expect an audible ring based on csipsimple ringtone setting.
What version of the product are you using? On what device / operating
system?
Nov 2014 on Nexus 5 running Android 5.0.1
Using Anveo as the SIP provider.

After some additional testing, I have found the cause.
If you have the system ringer sound set to 'none', it causes the problem above, although sometimes, the incoming csipsimple voip call will use the ringer setting from the csipsimple config.
If I change the system ringtone to something different that 'none' and also different than the csipsimple ringer setting and make calls to the csipsimple line, I get the system ringer tone and not the csipsimple one.
I was setting the system to 'none' because I don't use the Cellular number assigned to the phone by my carrier for incoming or outgoing calls at all, so I silenced the ringer to eliminate rings from telemarketing calls.
So I hope this helps to isolate the issues. Strange that the odd call does however use the csipsimple ringer setting, but not very often.
