Sound coming from the other side became garbled in -35 and still such in -36. I installed -34 and verified that that sound is good in that version (so this is not a connectivity problem or something).

HTC Desire running 2.2, the other side is a "talking clock" app so its quality is consistent across tests.

Is the audio configuration (audio frequency for example) are set to the same values?

I don't think that there is changes on the audio stack between -34 and -36. Could be due to the impact of something not directly related to audio, but worth to check if running with same settings first (specially codec and frequency).

I don't touch config at all, just install one .apk on top of the other. Anyway I checked and the codec is the same and the clock speed is the same. It does not sound like bad/wrong codec, it sounds like frames of sound are being lost, as if connection is too slow or lossy. But it is not: -34 sound fine (checked several times).

In issue 212 comment 3 the guy says he has bad sound too, though he says it broke between -35 and -36.

HTC desire is maybe affected by the psp mode too...

So are you in wifi when you make tests and does the screen turns off when your face is near to the screen?
If so, it can be due to the fact now on all other devices except the nexus one I activate full proximity sensor instead of keeping screen in dim mode.

So what you can test to check that, is go in settings > UI > and tick "keep awake while in call" option. Then screen will not turn off but wifi will correctly receive rtp packets.

Desire is indeed affected by the PSP mode problem and we had a longish exchange about the matter. I have always had "stay awake while on call" option enabled, and screen staying lit when proximity sensor feels my cheek. Now as you mentioned it, I checked it and it turns out that the screen does go black on proximity, and the option to stay awake is off. (Did you rename the option so the old value was not brought up?). When I switched the "stay awake" on it all now the sound is all right.

    Yes you're right... (/me ashamed).

Well in fact the option was reset at the install of -36 since it now pre-set a lot of settings according to the device it's running on. (You've probably seen the "fast setting" interface when running -36 for the first time).

For example it disable iLBC on non armv7 devices, reorder codecs, and put some settings. Keep awake in call is part of theses options - but I tested only for nexus one and forgot the htc desire !

Must be fixed for the release. I'll do that as soon as possible. Unfortunately I'll be far from my computer for next 3 days, but it's a really important issue (however easy to fix - if I had my computer with me I'd have already fixed it while writing that ;) ).

    Included in this one.
Must be uninstalled / reinstalled to test if by default the "keep awake while in call" is well set to true.
