What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Make a call
2. Check what mic is being used
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

That the correct MIC will be used, instead the MIC next to the headphones socket is being which is causing horrible echo to the other party (as the internal speaker and MIC are so close)

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

Latest version from the Market is being used. i tested on Stock Froyo and the leaked stock Gingerbread 2.3.3. Both with the same result.

Please provide any additional information below.

I tried to change the mic source under the Media settings but i either get no change or the mic does not work at all. i have tried all settings available.

Thanks!

Unfortunately, if none of the audio hacks help in this kind of case it's a problem that comes from samsung ROM, and nothing can be done by the application.

If another voice over IP application can have this working there is a chance that you didn't try one of the combination of audio routing.
Samsung sometimes prefer to use audio mode in_call for example, and sometimes it's interesting to test that with combination of a different audio source.
What's a shame is that in android 2.3.3 it really should work cause google did things clean and introduce a new audio mode and a new micro source (in_communication) that should be here for voice over IP application....

But would not be the first time that samsung release something crappy regarding their audio driver.

If you find something interesting with audio hacks do not hesitate to share the information. I can integrate findings from users as default settings. (And samsung devices already has a lot of theses exceptions added ;) -- almost each their device works its own way with audio driver).

In my case (Sony Xperia Z3 Compact) it did help to use the right microphone by just checking "configure the audio before its initialisation" ("Konfiguriere die Audioausgabe vor ihrer Intialisierung - Stelle die Audioausgabe in den richtigen Modus vor der Audiostream Initialisierung") in Settings (Expert mode) > Audio > Audio troubleshooting
    - the microphone source was on: VOICE_COMMUNICATION but did after this change work with others as well.
