On Acer Liquid Mini during a sip call proximity sensor don't lock the screen, while during a gsm call it does.

I have also an HTC Wildfire: on both mobile I have had to enable screen always on, otherwise both of them stop working when screen goes off; I don't know if this help you on this issue, but on wildfire proximity lock the screen (the right and left bar appear) but screen remain on, while on the Liquid the proximity shut off the screen (when on gsm call).

This happen on both CSipSimple 0.02-02 and 0.02-01.

Acer Liquid Mini 2.2.2

You'll understand why it works like that and will learn that if screen does not goes off it is to ensure the call quality and that on device that support it CSipSimple is able to manage the proximity sensor correctly : the problem is not on csipsimple side, but on the way you device manage wifi / screen and the fact it is not compatible yet with android 2.3 that ~should~ provide a way to avoid PSP mode (even if some manufacturer still do crappy things with this new availability).

I understand, but on Wildfire act in different way: in this device screen does not goes off (otherwise audio stop) but when proximity is detected on the screen appear the unlocking sliders, like the ones appear when you press the activate button to turn on the screen.

Is it possible to act in same way?

The acer liquid mini probably does not have a "proximity" sensor but a light sensor. This kind of sensor is not managed by CSipSimple (it's usually very complicated to manage since each manufacturer does his own implementation).
Usually in this kind of case it can be solve with alternatives ROM that emulate a "proximity" senor using the "light" sensor.

Normally, if everything works correctly, in this kind of case (when no proximity sensor is available at all), csipsimple will show the lock sliders about 10 seconds after the begin of the call. Is that what you observe?
If not, I'd be interested by the result get using some basic proximity sensor app available on the android market (for example AndroSensor) and see if you have both a light sensor and a proximity sensor.

I checked with AndroSensor as suggested.

On wildfire there's both proximity and light and both are working correctly.

On Liquid Mini there's no light sensor but proximity. But this does not work, as it always report "Waiting for event". I guess it employ some non-standard sensor, as with gsm calls there some proximity as it actually works.

Then, no sliders appear, after some seconds the screen becomes bright but remain fully active (I guess you find proximity and wait for it, but it does not work...).

Finally, it's not an hw issue, as I have 5 Liquid Mini and all works same.

    Any idea?

Sounds like a bug in their ROM. I guess acer did something wrong with the API they open to third party application to work with the proximity sensor.

In this case, first thing you should do is cry to Acer ;)

Then on my side the only solution I can propose is to add an option (workaround) to disable the proximity sensor detection and force fallback to mode without sensor for Acer Liquid... :S

    I think you're right, it's a bug from Acer...

Anyway, your proposed solution is good, during a call just propose the screen lock with the two slide, one for unlocking and one for terminate the call.

    Thanx.
