What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Start call
2. Await ringing. Bring your head close to the phone
3. Earpiece sound stops

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Remote party should also be audible when head close to the phone!

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Last csipsimple version, htc sensation, gingerbread

Please provide any additional information below.
I used the app successfully on htc magic for several months, but I can't use it on my new htc sensation! Hope to see a fix soon :)

Can you try to follow instructions here https://code.google.com/p/csipsimple/wiki/FAQ?wl=en#When_screen_goes_off_sound_quality_is_bad

Are you running an official gingerbread rom? Normally gingerbread introduces a way to lock wifi mode so that this problem shouldn't appear. By default if gingerbread is detected, csipsimple desativate the PSP hack.
If it does not work it is cause the rom doesn't support it.
Usually htc do things cleanly, but possible they postponed this feature of the 2.3 if they also do not include a stock sip app. If you are running a custom rom you should alert makers of the rom that they don't support correctly the high perf WiFi lock in their rom.

If they need more details I'm very active on the subject on android issues tracker and can give some pointers ;-).

Let me know how it goes with the psp hack activated.

    Hi regis,
Thank you very much for your answer. Indeed activating the option "Keep awake while in call" solved the issue. The only downside is that keeping the screen on uses much more battery for each call :(

I use stock rom on my htc sensation - it hasn't been rooted anyway. For now the bootloader is locked. Software number is 1.27.166.5, android version is 2.3.3.
There is indeed some Internet call settings within gingerbread, I have tried it but it is not as good as csipsimple. The lag until remote voice is heard is significantly longer than with csipsimple.

The proximity sensor issue is happening to my Motorola Defy as well, running Froyo, instead. As soon as I bring it to my face, sound stops. I'm running the last nightly build ([r911]). If I press the power button, sound is resumed, but it is cut off again as soon as the screen is turned off again. If I change the settings to invert the sensor, of course it works, but with the phone with its screen activated on my face, it would be somewhat easy to touch something mistakingly. Please, Regis, do something. You know I have the bluetooth microphone distortion problem (issue #51), and, now with this proximitity sensor issue, it is getting hard to use CSipSimple. Thanks for your efforts, anyway.

@casou : instead of the "invert proximity sensor" option, you should try the "keep awake while in call" option.
While invert just invert the way the application interprete the proximity sensor, keep awake while in call change the way the app behaves :

Instead of using the proximity sensor to turn off the screen, it lock screen in dim mode and add an overlay that prevent from unwanted action. So this setting is the good one to choose if your device have the PSP behavior.

I didn't know Defy was also impacted by this problem, I'll add it to list of device with this problem so that it will be automatic :).

Sure, I'll try that, but I don't think my phone has the PSP issue, since wifi is always on, and, nono of the communication application I have installed, like Skype, Yahoo Messenager and eBuddy, warn me that their path has been broken (if wifi was set off, it would take some time for my carrier data to take over). You see, I noticed this problem in the last couple of nightly buids only. It was not this way before, and my device's wireless settings have not changed ever since.

Maybe HTC has fixed that recently. If you get the 1.28.0.0 update of the ROM you can probably try without the PSP workaround. However I'll keep that the default setting to be the PSP workaround activated. I guess that's safer :)
