The simplest method is to export all of your mail, and then do a clean
install of 1.7.x (well, this is simplest if you don't have many filters /
accounts)

The "in-place" method is not so horrible either... download (via cvs)
1.7.x and read through the changelog ... there are only a few changes to
the DB required (creating the mimetypes table is one)  ... after you have
made the changes in the changelog, run "make install" and you should be
all set.
