Hi all, Well, the situation is even worse than we first realized, so we haven't yet finished and will continue on Monday. We have identified a total of 8 commits which introduce EOL only changes. Also some unauthorized changes to NSLS2 stuff, expanded CVS keywords (files copied from an old CVS checkout?), and permission changes (files marked executable by FTP or memory stick?). The commits which will be dropped, will be saved as patch files to be emailed to the offender. I'd like everybody to understand that the common repository is as good as the worst user: it takes one to make it useless. At a minimum, whoever is using it has to: 1) Consider what he is planning to change 2) Take care to change only what he plans 3) Review his changes before publishing them (hg outgoing before a push allows you to see what you are pushing) I think it may be necessary, as it is custom in other projects, to institute (temporary) revoke of permissions on the central repository for those people who lack either the skill or the courtesy to follow these simple rules. They can have their changes reviewed and pushed by somebody else during that period. I am not even talking about changes that introduce bugs: these are changes that either make the repository useless or changes that break/interfere on plugins that the commiter has no place in touching. These cannot be tolerated. Please, hold any change. We will let you know when the process is over. Thanks, Gabriele |
