Dear Colleagues,
as one application of our multi channel scaler (MCS) base class, I have implemented a MCS using a Multi IO card from NI. It provides analog triggering and basically works with all devices supported by the DAQmx driver. This may not be the ideal solution for a real experiment. However, even the standard M-Series cards provide a sample rate of about 1MHz. Such a solution would _not_ suffice the needs of a MCS when using a TOF section optimized for high resolution, where many ions are detected in about one 1us. However, for a precision trap, when only a few retarded ions are expected, this class may provide at least a reasonable solution as a backup or for testing, when an additional delay gate unit is used.
Of course, one may use a fast (Gigasample) digitizer to look directly at MCP signals. However, such fast digitizers might be quite expensive as a backup system for the SR430.
Regards,
Dietrich
