Currently GPG is supported from the dll, back to 1.0.6, while GPG is now at version 1.2.4. While there is no direct intent to break functionality, going forward it's a realistic possibility. What potential problems could occur in the installed environments? Are there features in the new 1.2.4 that would be useful in the dll? =20 |

I'm not sure that I agree totally. The ".gpg" is important for the dll user to identify "at-a-glance" what kind of file that they have before them. If we remove this then the user is unable to identify what kind of file it is. The dll is not to be armoring anything by default, so the user cannot look at the file contents with a text editor and identify the contents. Perhaps a switch that could be set by default to control the extensions in question? That would allow you to control whether CryptoTW generates an extension. I think depending on the user to rename the file to what they need is as (strong/weak) as having the dll do it for them. -----Original Message----- now that commonline states no file extention ....it would be great if you stop adding ".gpg" to the public key during the gen key call. If for some reason you need to have a file ext then that user/software should rename it w/ any extention they want. Thanks, Tim |

This may be an issue for those exchanging keys between programs based on PGP versus GPG. A public generated by GPG seems to be in a binary format whereas PGP generates it in an ASCII format. I was not able to import GPG generated public key into a keyring. I would like to know I anyone has resolved this issue. Thanks. Stan S. Lee AES |

i don't know if this will be a big issue, but i have noticed using my personal dll--if i send my public key to someone and that person's computer date/time is behind-- gpg will not allow it to be imported due to time worp due to key is created in the future....But your dll does not return any error so it is acting as key was imported...tw |

I wanted to give this topic plenty of thought exposure. Request: Tim Wenger has proposed that a function be added to assist the situation where some software (SBS's etc) only cares for a specific portion of a keyID, and not the whole keyID string. In general this would not work but in the specific cases of EEAT transactions this would work, because of the NCHELP & Education Department's control over Office of Education ID's. EEAT and NCHELP as a whole have been using these uniquely assigned id codes to identify the routing points in a B2B transaction. The NCHELP/EEAT Technical Manual specifies that the KeyID start with the company name that this key represents and that the comment contain the DOE# (ie. An entity("TEST COMPANY" with a DOE. number of "11111111" and non-ED branch ID of "ABC1", would have a key ID string of "TEST COMPANY (DOE.11111111.ABC1)". It should also be remember that the email addresses are considered optional in the EEAT data exchange world. That's what the "profile tables" are for!!!) Proposed solution(CmdrX): I propose that a function call be added to the DLL to allow for limited information to be passed in the resolution of a keyID. Function LimitKeyResolve(UserName,KeyID,EmailAddr: PCHAR): PCHAR; This function would take what items the user provided and try to resolve the key from the limited set of information. If the calling program does not have a specific piece of information then it would pass that information as a "null" value(ie "PCHAR('')" ). Problems with this suggestion.. there is no way to return an error message should the function fail. Envisioned usage: In the encrypt function ("Encrypt(SourceFile,ResultFile,KeyID:PChar)") I would see this function working like this... Encrypt(SourceFile, ResultFile, LimitKeyResolve(UserName,KeyID,EmailAddr) ); Because of the problem I identified with error trapping tmpstr := LimitKeyResolve(UserName,KeyID,EmailAddr); if no error then Encrypt(SourceFile, ResultFile, tmpstr ); |
