It would be nice to make sure any screensaver is
disabled while crrcsim runs and to restore screensaver
settings afterwards.
When using a tx interface there are no (keyboard,
mouse) inputs to prevent the screensaver from starting.

Can you please give any details? At least CRRCsim version
and operating system. An email address would also be helpful...

For the Windows platform I can't reproduce this bug, the
screensaver is disabled correctly while CRRCsim is running
    (CRRCsim 0.9.4, Windows 98).

(Quoting an email from J.W.W. to the Yahoo! group)

    Hi Jan,

that was me...at that time the system was woody or sarge
    (not stable,
november 2004). Currently I'm unable to test again, as I
    have changed my
system, and it is far from being able to run crrcsim. Sorry.

I can confirm the screen-saver bug.

    This was done using:
    Debian unstable (not updated recently)
    libsdl 1.2.9-0.1
    xscreensaver 4.23-4
The current CVS version of crrcsim
With the crrcsim application having focus.
Controlled by an USB joystick (Hitec USB Simulator Interface
    Cable)

As far as I can gather from:
    http://www.libsdl.org/pipermail/sdl/2003-December/058635.html
    http://www.libsdl.org/pipermail/sdl/2003-September/056711.html

SDL is supposed to handle the screen-saver disabling, at
least when the application has focus, at least under Win32.

One possible workaround could be to send X11 events using
the XTest extension when ever crrcsim detects changes in the
    "input device".
A better solution would be to disable the screen saver the
correct way, I however don't know how to do so yet.
