Yes, I really like tortuiseSVN, It only asks you for the password when you 1st check it out. You can wait if you wish, I'm going to ask for help when I do the conversion. I've noticed that when starting a new mob that is "larger" there has to be something in the top left grid. Jlittle _____ From: cro...@li... I've been around. Look for me in #angelion ( guess we need a #crossmagi )
SVN: The great thing about SVN, we can reorganize, add & delete.
Response to issues:
1. It should work, Any chance you can send me a copy of an expanded
grid that does not work. Perhaps I need to make a bunch of empty grids and
save them somewhere in the cvs (soon to be SVN)
2. I don't do 3D unfortunately, but I know some one who does. What
format are the 3d models in? I bet he could make us a nifty program that
would do it for us (Guy named JotDot who hangs with us on #angelion)
3. Are you saying that we make 3d models, add in optional weapons &
armor, animate them and the cut these animations into a form that we can
input into the arcs? That would be nice, only thing is, we are dealing with
very small images. Most things look bad when shrunk down to this size.
That's where the art of what we are doing comes through.
Other Items:
I think the next "big" thing I want to do is make some sort of import
utility that will take the arc files and create the crossmagi grid from
them.
The tool has an "export" that cuts the pics up to be used to import into
arcs. This works, what dosent work is that it does not match the numbering
system. That is because we don't organize the grids properly or
consistently. I think we need to 1) decide what order the pictures should
go 2) fix existing grids.

Subject: [Crossmagi-devel] conversion..
where the heck have you been jlittle???
as for converting to svn no problems.
I have a ton of work that could be added but i stopped bothering with it.
uhm
several issues.
1. I need to be able to increase the framework of the grid in a png.
however doing so i cannot get the helper to work.
not sure if this is a helper issue or what as i do not understand the helper
or how it does what it does. the issue is, some mobs (mostly giants) do not
fit into the frame work...or fits but you cannot do a proper animation the
frame is too small.
2. could we do 3d modles and cutup the various angles for 2d? ( i have
seen a mob created in a 3d version used to make the animation and various 2d
images
in daimonin)
3. if so, I am assuming that the final version would be much more
consistant ie not mirror'd on accident etc also a basic modle can be changed
with different armour etc for various mob types..ie orc bowman, orc slasher
etc I am also thinking that the amount of space used would be less from
this?
anyhow input ???

Ah, right then... All of the submissions I have made to date have been completely created by myself, pixel by pixel. Further, they are offered to the Crossmagi Open Source Project freely. I don't know much about licensing software, graphics, or anything at all. But, I do know that the origianl creator of these graphics is me, and I want them to be used by any and every person who can get some use out of them. This also goes for any future submissions I make. (Though some of my stuff is an alteration of someone else's work, I have no idea how that works....) In short, I leave the decisions about how these files should be licensed to someone more knowledgable. As far as I'm concerned, they are in the public domain, Freeware, whatever you call it... i hate these reply's to replys to replys... so go back to the original if you must see the first two ;) uhmm no problems noa, it is your work submit if you feel like it or not... this isn't about "what have you done for me lately" i am still plugging away day to day getting artwork done and submitted for one reason alone. People need it and when i was there very little was freely available. I can do it and sometimes it is great sometimes the work sucks... (well my opinion anyhow.) so anyhow you want to submit work great, if you do not fine. If you want someone else to cut and paste work into the current format, i will eventually do it. for now i am working on stuff that iether i created or that i am fully aware of the source and liscenseing. you have not officially stated your intent and I will not touch it until you have have clearly stated how or when it can or cannot be used. MT simply cannot give me your permission, only you can. also i am not asking you to create liscence documents for it all simple state your possition. (make sense?) anyhow i am busy with the stuff for halloween now anyways. jlittle, i need to speak with you regaurding the new function of the animator. where it takes the first frame and creates the rotation of the first. Is it ready for me to get a copy of? how do i use it, and could you update your page? uhmm that is all for now i suppose.. laters, Larry -->sherock |

pset (reply 2)
Okay,
Sorry I have been out of the loop on this one. I've recently changed I=
SP's...
=20
Also, I'm not terribly up on how to properly submit this type of thing.=
The arches that is. So here is what my thought process is on these. =20
=20
I submitted the arch file and the single frame images for these mobs to t=
he ma...@da... addy for two reasons.=20
First, the actual graphics, (which would be the focus of the Crossmagi =
project,) have not been put in the proper 'Animation Helper' format, with t=
he exception of the pirate that I have already submitted, and the horse, th=
ough altered in color from the set sent to the previously mentioned addy. =
The set of mob animations that I sent to MT is only two facings for evey mo=
b except the horse.
Second, and perhaps most importantly, I sent the arches because the map=
s I recently commited to the SVN require these arches to function properly.=
(For example, a ship captain npc actually 'sails' you from my lobby to th=
e shores near Atrillia. No arch, no captain, no voyage....)
=20
That said, I want all to understand. I have no problem with holding ba=
ck on releasing the mobs until a larger update can be prepared including so=
me of the marvelous work done by this team. I am absolutely on the team, a=
nd will submit to whatever decisions are made by the lead developers on thi=
s project. (Most of the non-functionality of my recently submitted mapset =
can be resolved by simply using existing arches and making slight adjustmen=
ts here and there.)
=20
So, my apologies for any confusion I may have had on this, and please i=
f there is anything I might offer, let me know.

Great!, Some information to start off with (this is going to be directed to the general public, so there may be more info here than you might expect): This is a relatively new project, so all our ducks are not quite in a row yet. Our Animation Helper tool works, but still needs a lot of improvements. At the moment we can tell it what source .png by cmdine option or animation_helper.dat in current directory. At some point in the future, there will be a menu and it will ask you what file you want it to display (note to self: do this already!) Here is a link to the documentation for the animation helper's wiki (which I now see is missing some pictures) http://angelion.sric.com/wiki/index.php/Animation_Tool (Assuming windows OS) Here is a link to a setup.exe that I made a while back: http://angelion.sric.com/~jlittle/Downloads/AnimationHelper/ Notice all the .dll files that are in there, you may need these. This is an older version (I need to make a new setup.exe) The best source for help will be the IRC #angelion on freenode , until we get our own channel for crossmagi. The key people to ask about crossmagi/animation helper would be jlittle (me), sherock, mysteria & gramlath. ------------ Assuming you can get the animation helper to work, Make a new directory on your PC. Copy into this directory the animation_helper.dat & animation_helper.exe (and possibly the .dlls ) Copy into this directory the dwarf.png Run the animation helper to verify that you can see the dwarf animating (this is the hardest part). Stop the animation helper, rename dwarf.png to something_else_here.png and change the contents animation_helper.dat to reflect this new file name. Run the animation helper again, you should still see the dwarf. ---- Now the fun part ---- Using your favorite editor, Put your images in place for what is already there keeping the directions consistent with what was there. Get rid of all the other images that are not yours (might need to draw arrows along the side) Remember, the animation tool only works with 8-bit (256 color) transparent .png source files ----- try to get an entire row of 8 directions for your image and keep the images consistent, (sword stays in right hand for instance) Send it to us. Hmm, well I guess for right now, you could send it to this list. .. Other Ideas for public consumption: All our pics are on Sourceforge's CVS for the project. One of the features is ViewCVS, which could be used to shows what we have so far. One of the features is to show the history of a file. If there is an image that is incomplete and looks interesting to you, check out the last time it was edited. If it hasn't been worked on in a while (how long is a while?), then you could download it and make changes to it and send it back to use. We would then recommit it with your changes. You could also check the CVS and get all the pics at one time. -- Also, when submitting art, please tell us what license the art is under. At this point we would like most art sent to use to be GPL, or better (public domain). I'm not sure we can take artwork with stronger licenses. (note to self: we really need to get the licenses format going before it gets out of hand.. perhaps file_name.lic ) -- Hope this helped. James Little _____ From: cro...@li... Unfortunatly no most of these graphics are not in use yet, It turns out, there is a 16-bit field for "length of packet" that is limiting the size of the initial transfer of the "graphics list" to the clients. This can be fixed, but would require everyone to DL a new client. So, it has been on hold for a while. At some point we need to just do it and deal with the consequences. -----Original Message----- From: cro...@li... Okay, I'm onspeed with the devel list.... Could someone bring me up to speed on where we are, what we need done, and how I should go about doing it? nao...@ya... This is all new to me, so handle me with kid gloves, please... I have a quite a few new graphics that are currently only two facings, so I'd like to get those posted up and basically get on speed with what's happening. Thanks, Nat --------------------------------- How low will we go? Check out Yahoo! Messengers low PC-to-Phone call rates. |

Hello all,
After a long while, I've done it
I've:
#1 Figured out how to make the animator produce a .gif without
initializing the screen so it can be run from the cmdline on a unix box.
#2 Created a script that would generate .gifs and a web page showing
them.
#3 Made a cron job that would automate CVS updates (public side) and
call the script above.
Now here is the possible bad thing:
#4 I've made the crossmagi page at SF, which had been pointing at
nothing, point to this page: http://angelion.sric.com/~jlittle/Crossmagi .
In general if you look at the stats page on SF for Crossmagi, it looks
like we were getting hits to nowhere, so I figured this was better than
directing people to nothing.
The reason this is hosted at angelion.sric.com vs SF's hosting, is that
SF does not like graphicaly intensive pages. But being that we are a
graphics project...
If this is a bad thing, I will remove the #4 above.
