#3113 [armours] cloak of distortion

A cloak of distortion bends space around the wearer, providing a permanent missile-evasion bonus akin to repel missiles at close range (0-3) and deflect missiles at long range (3-6). However, removing it causes distortion unwielding effects, so good luck switching out your body armour afterwards.

A hyper-cursed slot restriction would not be fun at all.

I don't think it's *quite* so bad: once an EV-based player (obvious target of this cloak ego) has found a robe of resistance, there is little reason to switch body armour except for entering or leaving the slime pits. Weapons, on the other hand, get swapped out all the time. So yes, a cloak of distortion is annoying, but is it more annoying than a weapon on distortion?

I like the idea of armor with major side-effects, but reusing distortion is not the way to do it.

    How about this:

Cloak of Blood. (Could be allowed on body armor, too.) When put on, drains 1-2 points Str, and drains 1 point Str every 500 or so turns while worn. In return, your max HP is increased by 10 (or 8 or 5, if 10 is too strong) as long as it's worn. "This strange, quasi-living armor feeds on your strength, but adds its magical vitality to your own."

Note that the way =Sustain Abilities works, it prevents the ongoing Str loss but you still have a 50% chance of losing 1 point on wearing the cloak.

Having side-effects occur gradually while the armour is *worn* rather than upon equipping/non-equipping is a far better idea, and is more consistent with the current +mut and *tele effects. I quite like the Cloak of Blood for these reasons.

So, instead of re-using distortion, the Cloak of Distortion could decrease accuracy of ranged attacks (hard to fire through a distortion field), or simply cause teleportitis.

could be a great fixedart, make it similar to the high level DS mutation EV+5 +repel missiles, plus whatever else to add

I am suggesting fixedart so that okie players will not be terrified of trying on a 'glowing cloak' god gift. pigvomit

You know, having Okawaru give more useful, but oft-times more hazardous gifts would be *way* more interesting than the current setup. Scarier, to be sure, but since Okie is the most reliable god he needs to be kicked down a notch anyway.

In short, cloaks of distortion would at least be more exciting than +0 animal skins.
