Script - Compiled Intermediate Language

Jeroen Broekhuizen

Yet Another Script (YAS) uses a in between language called Compiled Intermediate Language, in short CIL. The main reason it was added to the compiler was to support multiple types of interpreters. Currently the engine uses a stack-based interpreter, but in the future a register-based interpreter or even a JIT (Just In Time) engine.

An added advantage of this intermediate language is that the results of the compiler can be saved to a file, resulting in much faster load times as many compile steps can be skipped then. This feature is not yet implemented in the engine.
