Developments for the next release are in progress. This next version of the engine will be version 0.5. A huge number of changes have been worked on in the previous months. These changes include:
All these changes enable me to improve the engine and make it easier for you to build great performing games on many platforms. Some of these changes also have been done to make the porting of the engine to the latest Microsoft Windows platforms including Windows RT and Windows Phone 8 possible. In order to run on these platforms some dependencies had to be removed, including NVidia's CG library and the OpenAL sound system (which has been replaced already by FMOD). Other dependencies like the ICU library still have to be ported to be compatible with the Windows RT/Phone system. I will keep you updated on the progress on twitter and in blogs.
In the meantime I am developing a news application for Windows Phone 8, in which you can follow the progress I make in one place. It displays the blog entries posted here at Sourceforge and the tweets of #jenginesse. I already learned a lot about C# and phone development and a first version is already running on my phone! Before it hits the store I still need to add a couple of additional features that make the app slightly nicer to use and perform testing such that the app passes the certification requirements.
There will be two versions of the app. The first is an ad powered app and the second will be a paid app. I hope that with the money that I raise with this app, that I can pay a Windows 8 Store developer license, such that I can also release the engine for Windows 8 and RT.
