Attached is a simple patch that fixes the build problem on Linux.
It doesn't contain the check for --disable-test-plug-in and 
conditional compilation of the plugin example.  If I have the
time over the next couple of days I will try to add this as well.
This patch also adds a newline to the end of a couple of files to
keep an annoying warning from displaying when compiling with the
gnu compiler.
