That is correct.  Neither autogen.sh nor README.CVS should be in
the tarball.

Okay ... but that is a little confusing: if you get the tar
distribution, you will not have any README.CVS file (nor do you need
it).

Generally speaking, one expects that someone using CVS is competent
enough to read README.CVS.  I thought the confusion stemmed from
tar'ing up the CVS sources without properly generating the
distribution makefiles.  ?
