It might: from readme.CVS:

tools.  The version numbers are minimal: later versions should

Other than that, I can't really help (I only have a general idea of how

I encountered problems with a missing 'config/depcomp' file, see
attachment.

some machine information:
 - Linux 2.2.16 #1 Wed Aug 2 20:03:33 GMT 2000 i686 unknown
 - g++ 2.95.2
 - Autoconf version 2.13 (shouldn't matter, but...)
