Personally, I'm happy with what you've given as the goals, but I'd also add
that it should be simple to be able to add custom protocols.  We can provide
the common implementations that you described, but I think the success of
the library will depend on the ability of library users to use their own.
Others on this list know more about the feasibility of providing a DNS
implementation.  Otherwise what you describe can already be useful and I
think we have enough expertise among us to produce something pretty
effective.
