wondering if it is possible to modify cpanel proxy so
that webmail can be run off a different folder name eg
web.cpanel.net instead of webmail.cpanel.net
It allows you to install cPanel Proxy without using subdomains. Installation procedure is very simple. All you need to do is create a directory in your public_html named proxy, i.e. /home/username/public_html/proxy, and copy all the files in the package into it. Once it is done, you can access cPanel services using the following URLs.
Logged In: YES
user_id=506950
Originator: NO
This should definitely be possible. However, what will be the use for this feature?
Logged In: NO
Just because my host has made cpanel and webmail subdomains reserved for itself.
Can you please elaborate how this can be done.

You should try the new version of cPanel Proxy that I uploaded yesterday under patch #1609901. It is located in Patches area, here is the link to it: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1609901&group_id=163755&atid=828997
