Hi, my name is Tomas Fasth. I'm new to the list, and just wanted to breifly introduce myself before starting to post real issues on this list. I'm a co-owner of a small operation in Sweden providing service to small companies in the east region. We are running a server farm consisting of ia32 hardware and Debian GNU/Linux. Having used traditional file based *nix style configuration in the past, with software like sendmail, q-popper, and uw-imap, we experienced a steadily increasing amount of time spent on system administration and inter-system coordination. By using Exim, Courier-IMAP, apache (using auth_ldap), proftpd (using mod_ldap), and OpenLDAP, we are now being able to serve our customers in a truly virtual environment completely separated from the underlying operating system. I would love to hear from other fellows who are using similar approaches but possibly different combination of software components. Sam Varshavchik has done a terrific job with courier-imap. It's a pure joy to read the code, compared to the cryptic (although efficient) code of Mark Crispin in the uw-imap software. I also want to salute Luc Saillard for his work on authldap, without which I would have had a hard time managing my growing base of imap users. Since I use courier-imap in production, I will have things coming up that hopefully can contribute to the project and it's fellows. Thanks for your time, Tomas Fasth <tom...@eu...> |
