Category: Interface Improvements Group: Next Major Release Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Bruce Edmonds (bruceedmonds) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: A Gesture for scrolling whole screen Initial Comment: Can we have an apple-compatible gestures (e.g. four fingers in fullscreen mode) for scrolling the screen. Moving from gestures to scroll bars (when they deign to appear that is) is a pain. This would greatly improve the functionality of COTVNC. Thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Peter Åstrand (astrand) Date: 2012-04-12 04:08 Message: CotVNC is not developed any longer. You should probably migrate to some our viewer. TigerVNC is my recommendation, although it doesn't support gestures at this point. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=507162&aid=3516365&group_id=64347 |

Category: Networking Group: None Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: https://www.google.com/accounts () Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: COTVNC fails to connect to ElasticHosts Initial Comment: elastichosts.com is a cloud services provider - we provide a VNC connection to our cloud servers. We recommend use of TightVNC or Vinagre, which just plain works on the windows and linux frionts, and yet we can't find any mac software that will connect to our VNC server, other than realVNC enterprise (which is pricey). Is COTVNC non standard and only works for its own server? Is there some bug? We'd be happy to work with the COTVNC developers to try to work out why this is the case, so we'd have software for our mac users that we could recommend. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: dustinac (dustinac) Date: 2011-06-28 19:41 Message: For the record, this morning I set up a trial account with a Debian 6.0.1 image. I was able to connect using both Chicken of the VNC 2.0b4 and Chicken 2.1.1 just by entering the IP address and the password. CotVNC was unbearably slow, but Chicken was very responsive (albeit on a small two-color screen). With Apple's Screen Sharing.app, I couldn't connect and only got an uninformative error message. As I said above, I think your users will be happy with Chicken. It is the only free, currently maintained VNC client on the Mac with good support for non-Apple servers. If your users find any incompatibilities with it, please file a bug report report: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=364722&atid=1521165 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: https://www.google.com/accounts () Date: 2011-06-28 11:48 Message: Oh, I misread the message... I'll look into the fork version. Thanks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: https://www.google.com/accounts () Date: 2011-06-28 11:48 Message: Unfortunately, we keep getting reports that this doesn't work. Since our VNC connection is generated by the virtualization system (Qemu/Kvm) it should be fairly standard. We also have no macs, so can't actually test Chicken ourselves. It's easy to test for anyone that does - we offer free accounts. The CEO commented "Yes, there are problems with some VNC software - KVM uses a recent version of the protocol which isn't universally supported." If anyone out there in chicken land can tell us how to make Chicken connect correctly, we'd love to know. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: dustinac (dustinac) Date: 2011-06-26 15:00 Message: Chicken of the VNC uses the standard VNC protocol and is supposed to work with any compliant VNC server. Indeed, it is only a client and has no preferred server. However, the development of CotVNC has been abandoned for many years with many bugs still outstanding. I recommend that you recommend that your clients use Chicken http://chicken.sourceforge.net which is a currently maintained fork of CotVNC. Chicken fixes many of the bugs in CotVNC and add some improvements as well. If you find any incompatibilities with Chicken, please open an item in the bug tracker and I'd be glad to try to fix them. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=507159&aid=3325232&group_id=64347 |

Category: Interface Group: v2.0 Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: oversteer (oversteer) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Touchpad two-finger scroll scrolls down instead of up Initial Comment: Version: 2.0b4 on MacOS 10.5.6 Intel. Server: RealVNC 4.1.2 on XP SP3, admin-enabled account. 1. Connect to the server. 2. Open a window with a scroll bar -- a browser or command shell, make sure it has enough content to scroll -- do a Google search, do "dir" a few times. 3. Scroll down and up using the touchpad with two fingers. Expected: scroll as we know it. Observed: scroll down works fine, scroll up scrolls (mostly) down instead of up. Sometimes it does have an enlightened moment and scrolls up a bit, but most of the time it scrolls down. Mouse wheel works fine, only touchpad two-fingered scroll has this issue. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: dustinac (dustinac) Date: 2011-03-29 21:37 Message: Try Chicken. LAN connections seem to reconnect fine, connections over the VPN -- even after the VPN has re-established connection -- are sure to crash CotVNC, typically on the first mouseover. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=507162&aid=3148167&group_id=64347 |

I'm no objective-C pro and I'm not familiar at all with this project's coding standards. Category: Interface Group: None Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: wrayal (wrayal) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Initial RichCursor Support Initial Comment: This adds support for the RichCursor encoding. This renders the remote cursor locally; that is, the cursor is rendered locally, but the image for the cursor is sent by the server. This significantly improves perceived performance. Only the 16bit implementation has been tested. Requires blank Source/CursorEncodingReader.m/.h to diff to. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: dustinac (dustinac) Date: 2010-10-24 15:39 Message: This patch is included in Chicken, a fork/revival of Chicken of the VNC: https://sourceforge.net/projects/chicken/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=507161&aid=2137186&group_id=64347 |

This method does not return IPv6 addresses if they exist. This patch replaces the use of gethostbyname() with getaddrinfo() which returns both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses so that you can connect to IPv6 VNC servers as long as they have a hostname which resolves to their IPv6 address. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Jeff Birac (jbirac) Date: 2008-08-22 08:21 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=2189094 Originator: NO Could someone provide a little more detail about this patch? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=507161&aid=1906900&group_id=64347 |

Category: None Group: None Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: pen_sq (pen_sq) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Here's a touchpad-freindlier version of scrolling Initial Comment: CotVNC normally goes nuts with scroll (mostly down) events when I scroll on my trackpad (two fingers, yay!). This filters away all those teensy scroll events that somehow fall on the wrong side of an if statement. This is tested on an Intel Macbook 2.0Ghz, with trackpad and a logitech bluetooth mouse(+ wheel, naturally). The Client (Host? X has my head backwards) is a Debian box on Wired Gig ethernet, running XTightVnc, with KDE env. Played with scrolling in PAN(GTK) and Konqueror(KDE). This is against CVS of July 15th, 07. - (void)scrollWheel: (NSEvent *)theEvent { //printf("%s theEvent deltaX:%f Y:%f\n",__FILE__,[theEvent deltaX],[theEvent deltaY]); if ( _viewOnly ) return; if ( fabs([theEvent deltaY]) <= 0.05 ) //trackpads can send lots of really small moves, my notchy mouseWheel gives 0.1 per move return; [self sendAllPendingQueueEntriesNow]; int addMask; NSPoint p = [_view convertPoint: [[_view window] convertScreenToBase: [NSEvent mouseLocation]] fromView: nil]; if ( [theEvent deltaY] > 0.05 ) addMask = rfbButton4Mask; else if ([theEvent deltaY] < -0.05 ) addMask = rfbButton5Mask; else assert("An unknowable MouseWheel value!"); [self clearUnpublishedMouseMove]; [_connection mouseAt: p buttons: _pressedButtons | addMask]; // 'Mouse button down' [_connection mouseAt: p buttons: _pressedButtons]; // 'Mouse button up' } ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: dustinac (dustinac) Date: 2010-10-24 15:38 Message: This patch is included in Chicken, a fork/revival of Chicken of the VNC: https://sourceforge.net/projects/chicken/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Jeff Birac (jbirac) Date: 2008-08-22 08:59 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=2189094 Originator: NO The "0.05" -- I think of it as "scroll wheel sensitivity"-- seems a bit high (for my system); lists jump, not scroll, a little too quickly for my taste. Here's my fix... I defined a new symbol "SCROLLWHEEL_SENSITIVITY" in EventFilter.h, and set it smaller than 0.05: #define SCROLLWHEEL_SENSITIVITY 0.01 Then I replaced each instance of "0.05" (careful, only in the patch in EventFilter.m) with the "SCROLLWHEEL_SENSITIVITY" symbol. This makes fine-tuning the scrollwheel much simpler. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=507161&aid=1754206&group_id=64347 |

I believe this gets mapped to the "windows" key in my linux console (judging by the behavior). It would be nice if CotVNC would not allow itself to lose focus without sending keyup events for any current keydowns. Current workaround is to just press command or control whenever CotVNC gains focus, just in case there are stuck events (sending one seems to clear out the rest). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=507159&aid=2995729&group_id=64347 |
