A "vnc://" URL scheme and format should be developed, and the VNC client should register themselves as URL handlers for that scheme. This would allow users to start up a VNC server, export a display, and send out the URL to their display to others so that they could collaborate more easily with them. It could also allow links to be embedded into Web pages that point to more persistent sessions.

Servers might need a "helper app" that would allow the URLs for particular sessions to be easily copied to other contexts where these URLs would be useful.

Well, I'm down with the idea, but I hesitate to devote
coding time to it without anyone else in the world
    supporting it.

Also, for the next minor release, perhaps tweak the Open
connection menu dialog window to allow hostnames such as
    any.host.edu:2 or vnc://any.host.edu:2

Many folks familiar with other VNC clients out there are
used to connecting to "hostname:DISPLAY" such as
    "any.host.edu:2".

Can you parse the hostname and if has a colon (:) use the
number following the colon as the DISPLAY (or port) number.
I guess you could tell it to ignore leading vnc:// safely...

The host:port syntax definitely needs to be supported. That
whole Open Connection panel needs an update.

I should have mentioned this a long time ago, but the
oriringal URL request is in CVS and will be in the next
release. We support both vnc:// and rfb://

    Resolved in Chicken 2.0b3.
